Harrison Ray, Clemson: Heartbreaking end to local man’s desperate 12-day fight for survival after a violent intersection crash

The folks over in the tight-knit community of Liberty are dealing with some heavy hearts today. Everyone is mourning the incredibly sad loss of Harrison Ray, a 59-year-old local resident who just passed away after putting up a massive fight for his life following a bad car wreck earlier this month.

The whole nightmare started back on June 6 at around 2:40 in the afternoon. Ray was driving through Clemson when things took a terrible turn right at the busy intersection of Highway 93 and Cambridge Drive, ending in a violent two-vehicle collision that left him with severe injuries.

Emergency crews acted fast and rushed Ray straight to the hospital so doctors could get to work on saving him. He spent nearly two weeks fighting hard in the intensive care unit while his family and friends held onto hope for a recovery.

But despite every single effort by the medical team at Greenville Memorial Hospital, the injuries were just too much for his body to handle. Pickens County Coroner Andrew Wilson sadly confirmed that Ray took his final breath on Thursday, June 18.

Coroner Wilson headed out to the hospital following the tragedy to handle the initial paperwork and formally rule the passing. The office is officially listing the loss as an accidental death caused by the severe trauma from the motor vehicle accident.

For the people who knew and loved Ray, the news has been absolutely devastating. Neighbors are reflecting on a guy who was deeply woven into the fabric of the community, a friend whose life was cut way too short by a random moment on a Saturday afternoon.

Right now, everyone is just trying to process the painful reality of a world without him. The community is rallying around Ray’s family, sending up thoughts and prayers that they can find some semblance of strength during this unbelievably dark time.
