LOUISA, Va. — It was supposed to be just another calm evening on Lake Anna. Instead, a quiet shore quickly turned into a scene of shock and heartache when 35‑year‑old Andrew Glen Knight of Mineral lost his life in a tragic kayaking accident that has left a community reeling.
Family and friends are struggling to make sense of what happened Tuesday night near the Lakeview Drive area. Knight had gone out on the water with his young son in a small kayak. Things appeared ordinary until the vessel suddenly capsized in the water. Neither father nor son was wearing a life jacket.

A nearby boater spotted the overturned kayak and reacted immediately. That good Samaritan pulled the child out of the water and into safety. The boy was shaken but uninjured, and deputies later turned him over to family members.
Witnesses later told deputies that Knight had been trying to push the kayak back toward shore when he disappeared beneath the surface. Multiple people in the area rushed into the water to look for him, but before long, rescue crews were called in.
Teams from Louisa County and Spotsylvania County worked together in the murky evening light. Divers from the Spotsylvania County Dive Team scoured the water for nearly an hour before locating Knight’s body just after 9 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Friends remember Knight as a devoted father and an outdoorsman who loved spending time on the lake. The pain of losing him is heavy on his community, and many are reflecting on how quickly a normal day turned disastrous.
Authorities say the incident is being investigated as a drowning and that no foul play is suspected. They have urged all lake visitors to wear life jackets and take precautions on the water, especially when children are involved. The investigation is ongoing.
