The quiet town of Pahrump is grieving after a devastating highway crash claimed the life of 21-year-old Rhiannon Nicole Folsom on Saturday evening. Friends say the young woman had a bright spirit and a way of making people feel welcome wherever she went. Now her sudden death has left a deep ache in the hearts of those who knew her.
The fatal collision happened around 6:30 p.m. on March 7 along Nevada State Route 160 near mile marker 2 in Nye County. According to investigators, traffic was moving normally when a northbound 2006 Nissan X-Terra attempted to pass a 2023 Chevrolet Camaro at a very high speed.

Authorities say the SUV crossed into the southbound lane during the passing attempt. That move placed the vehicle directly in the path of a 2021 Chevrolet Spark driven by Folsom. The two vehicles slammed into each other head-on in a violent impact.
The crash did not end there. The Nissan rotated from the force of the collision and overturned before striking the Chevrolet Camaro that had been traveling in the northbound lane.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the damage was severe. Officials confirmed that Folsom and the driver of the Nissan, 62-year-old Carlos Alfredo Gurry-Rubio of North Las Vegas, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Camaro suffered only minor injuries and stayed at the location, cooperating with investigators as troopers worked through the wreckage and began piecing together what happened.
In the days since the crash, loved ones have been remembering Folsom as someone whose kindness and warmth stood out. People who knew her say she cared deeply about her friends and family and always tried to bring a little joy into everyday moments.
The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team continues to examine the crash scene and surrounding evidence as they work to understand every detail of the collision. For now, the Pahrump community is holding tight to memories of a young woman whose life ended far too soon.
