FARMVILLE, Va., MOURNS JOHNNY REAMER AFTER I-295 CRASH

Farmville is reeling after Johnny Reamer died early Sunday when his tractor-trailer left Interstate 295 northbound near mile marker 26.1 and plunged down an embankment into a wooded area. Emergency crews from Henrico Fire and EMS arrived about 5:05 a.m. and found Reamer heavily entrapped in the cab. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The wreck forced the closure of the northbound center lane, right lane, and right shoulder, snarling traffic for about 1.5 miles as crews worked to recover the vehicle. Virginia State Police worked alongside VDOT, a contracted tree service and a heavy wrecker to remove the tractor-trailer and clear the scene.

Friends and family described Reamer as a steady presence in the community; his sudden death has left loved ones stunned and grieving. Neighbors said he was known for his quiet work ethic and quick smile, the sort of man people trusted on sight.

Investigators with the Virginia State Police have opened a probe into what caused the truck to leave the roadway. Authorities are checking the vehicle, reviewing any available logs and evidence from the scene, and have not released a cause pending further examination.

Drivers were urged to use caution and seek alternate routes while recovery and cleanup continued. The crash and subsequent lane closures created long backups during the morning hours before travel moved more freely.

A small, close-knit community is now planning how to remember Reamer and support his family. Local friends have begun sharing memories and offering help as details continue to emerge.

Officials say they will release more information when available. For now, Farmville mourns a man taken too soon.
