FRISCO, Texas — A North Texas neighborhood that had buzzed with rare winter snow is now wrapped in grief after a sledding accident on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of 16‑year‑old Elizabeth Angle and left her best friend fighting for her life. The tragedy unfolded around 2:30 p.m. near Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Court as youth sought a bit of winter fun amid icy conditions following a rare Texas winter storm.
Police and fire crews were dispatched after a neighbor flagged the crash. When first responders arrived, they found two 16‑year‑old girls with life‑threatening injuries. Both had been on a sled that was being pulled by a young driver in a Jeep Wrangler. Witnesses at the scene said the sled struck a curb and then slammed into a tree, a violent collision that left both girls gravely hurt.

Paramedics worked quickly and transported the girls to a local hospital. Elizabeth, a sophomore at Wakeland High School, later died from her injuries. Her best friend, also 16 and identified by the family as Grace, remains in critical condition and on life support, her parents have shared with local news outlets.
Elizabeth’s family described her as a bright, outgoing young woman with a kind heart. She was the middle child in her family, cherished by her two sisters and loved by friends and classmates. At school, she played on the Wakeland High School soccer team and was admired by her peers and teachers for her warm spirit and magnetic personality.
Wakeland High School announced plans to honor Elizabeth’s memory during second period when classes resume following closures due to icy roads last week. Counselors will be on hand to support students and staff as the campus community tries to process the shock of losing one of its own.
The Frisco Police Department said the accident is under active investigation, supported by the Denton County District Attorney’s Office. Officials stressed that no arrests have been made and urged anyone with information to contact the department. They also reminded residents to exercise caution during winter weather and avoid risky activities in hazardous conditions.
Neighbors have left flowers and notes at the crash site, turning the quiet street corner into an impromptu memorial. In a tight‑knit community suddenly touched by profound loss, friends, families, and classmates are coming together — mourning Elizabeth’s life while hoping for Grace’s recovery and supporting one another through this heartbreaking moment.
