Fresno is reeling after the sudden death of 38‑year‑old Perry Paul Espinosa, who was shot and killed late Thursday night in southwest Fresno. The quiet of the neighborhood along Samson Avenue near MLK Jr. Boulevard and North Avenue was shattered just before 10 p.m. when gunfire erupted and reports began flooding in to police.
When officers arrived, they found Espinosa suffering from at least one gunshot wound. First responders worked urgently to help him, but he did not survive. He died right there on the street, leaving neighbors in shock and disbelief.

Police say the shooting came after a disturbance that involved several people, though they have not released details about who else was there or what sparked the confrontation. Detectives have been canvassing the area, talking to residents and urging anyone with even small pieces of information to come forward. They are hoping that someone’s memory might help them piece together what happened that night.
For those who knew Perry, the loss is deeply personal. Friends describe him as someone who always had time for a laugh and a kind word, a man who cared about his family and the community he called home. His sudden death has left a hole in the lives of the people who loved him.
Family members have not yet announced funeral plans, saying they are still trying to process what has happened and will share memorial details when they are ready. In the meantime, flowers and candles have begun appearing near the site of the shooting, as neighbors pay their respects.
Authorities continue to investigate. They have asked anyone with information to reach out, and have reminded the public that even small details can make a big difference in solving violent crimes.
