Late Thursday night in High Point, officers rushed to the 500 block of Anaheim Street after reports of a car crashing into a house just before 11 p.m. When police arrived, they found a man behind the wheel bleeding from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. Efforts to save him failed, and he died hours later at a local hospital.
The victim was identified as 35‑year‑old Stanley J. Lerebours from Raleigh. Friends say he was a familiar face in his community, known for his outgoing personality and easy laugh. His family is devastated and struggling to make sense of the sudden loss. Neighbors who live near Anaheim Street said they heard the crash and the sound of sirens but never expected something like this in their neighborhood.

Officers believe Lerebours was shot at a different location earlier that night. Detectives from the High Point Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit say he drove away from the first incident and kept going until his vehicle hit the home. They are working to determine where the shooting happened and what led up to it.
No arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone who saw or heard anything around that area late Thursday to come forward. Detectives hope even small pieces of information will help them piece together the timeline of events that ended so tragically.
This marks the third criminal homicide in High Point this year, a statistic that has left many in the community unsettled. Crime prevention groups and neighbors have already started talking about ways to help keep their streets safer and more secure.
Lerebours’ family is planning a small memorial gathering this week to honor his life and remembers him as someone who cared deeply about his friends and family. Those close to him say his passing has left a hole in their lives that won’t soon be filled.
