A normal Friday afternoon drive turned into a total nightmare for a local family. Blaine Skyler Minkel, who was just 33 years old, lost his life in a terrible crash. It happened on U.S. Highway 212 near Dupree in Melville Township.
What started as a regular trip quickly turned into a heartbreaking tragedy. This sudden loss has left his family and friends completely broken. Now, an entire tight-knit community is left searching for answers about what went wrong.

According to local authorities, Blaine was driving westbound on the highway. It was just a little bit after 1 p.m. when the crash occurred. His vehicle collided head-on with an eastbound semi tractor-trailer along a busy stretch of Renville County road.
The force of the impact was incredibly severe. Emergency responders rushed to the scene as fast as they could. Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do to save him. Blaine was pronounced dead right there at the crash site.
The circumstances surrounding the crash make it even harder for people to process. State officials reported that the weather and the roads were not factors at all. The pavement was completely dry, and the afternoon visibility was perfectly clear.
Cops also immediately ruled out alcohol as a cause for the wreck. Despite these great driving conditions, the violent collision still happened anyway. This leaves the investigators with a whole lot of wide-open questions.
The driver of the semi-truck managed to survive the massive impact. Medics transported him to a Minneapolis-area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Meanwhile, state troopers are still working hard to figure out the exact cause of this devastating crash.
