KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — Young Woman Dies in Interstate 20 Crash After Rear-End Collision

Kershaw County is reeling after a sudden and deadly crash on Interstate 20 Friday night took the life of 19-year-old Chelsea Emily Moran of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Moran was the driver of a 2014 Dodge involved in a multi-vehicle collision that left her dead at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the crash happened just before 8 p.m. near Mile Marker 92 in the Lugoff area. Moran’s Dodge ran into the back of a 2016 International tractor-trailer that was moving east on the highway. The force of the impact flipped the big rig onto its side and sent it into the median.

After the first collision, Moran’s vehicle kept going, smashed through the median barrier, and crossed into the westbound lanes. There it was hit by a 2026 Volvo tractor-trailer. Emergency crews arrived quickly, but Moran was pronounced dead on site, confirmed by the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office.

Friends and family describe Chelsea as full of life and promise. They say she had plans, dreams, and a bright future ahead.
