The Anderson community is grieving the sudden loss of 20-year-old Landyn W. Maupin, who died Saturday afternoon in a crash along State Road 169 in Jefferson Township. Authorities say the young driver was heading north in a Tesla Model 3 when the vehicle collided with the rear of a parked semi tractor-trailer .
According to the Huntington County Coroner’s Office, Maupin was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner later confirmed that he died from multiple blunt impact injuries .

Investigators have ruled the death accidental. Officials pointed to speed and unsafe passing as the primary factors that led to the collision . The semi tractor-trailer was parked when Maupin’s vehicle struck it from behind.
