NEW BRUNSWICK — Dennis Frick Killed in Route 1 Median Crash Near Morris Goodkind Bridge

A quiet morning commute turned deadly in New Brunswick when 65-year-old Dennis Frick of Freehold lost his life in a violent crash along Route 1. It happened just after 7 a.m. Wednesday, near the Morris Goodkind Bridge, in a stretch of road many drivers know all too well.

Authorities say Frick was heading north in his Ford pickup, likely starting what should have been a routine drive. At the same time, an Infiniti sedan was traveling southbound when something went wrong. Investigators believe the driver lost control, sending the car across the median and straight into Frick’s path.

The impact was brutal. Early reports and images from the scene suggest the Infiniti may have actually landed on top of Frick’s truck after the collision. It was the kind of crash that leaves little chance of survival. Frick was pronounced dead right there at the scene.

The driver of the Infiniti, an 18-year-old from North Brunswick, walked away without injuries. Authorities have not released the teen’s name, and for now, no charges have been filed. Investigators are still working to piece together exactly what led up to the crash.

Emergency responders rushed in quickly, but the damage had already been done. Both directions of Route 1 were shut down for nearly five hours between North Brunswick and Edison. Traffic backed up for miles, leaving drivers stuck as crews carefully examined the wreckage.

For many in the area, the tragedy feels all too familiar. This is now the fourth fatal crash on Route 1 in Middlesex County this year. It is a number that is raising serious concerns about safety on one of the region’s busiest highways.

Behind the statistics, though, is a life lost. Dennis Frick was more than a name in a report. He was a man who left home that morning and never made it back. As investigators continue their work, a community is left grieving a sudden and heartbreaking loss.
