MILTON, Georgia — A heartbreaking search for rapper Lil Jon’s missing son ended Friday when authorities pulled a body from a pond near his home that they believe is 27‑year‑old Nathan Smith, also known in music circles as DJ Young Slade.
Friends, family and police had been searching since early Tuesday morning after Smith walked away from his residence without a phone, prompting urgent concern that he might be disoriented and in need of help.
Just before noon Friday, divers from the Cherokee County Fire Department found a body in a pond at Mayfield Park, only about 100 yards from where Smith was last seen. Police said they believe the body is his, but official confirmation must still come from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Milton Police stressed there’s no current sign of foul play, though the investigation remains open and active while authorities wait for formal identification and cause of death.
In a joint statement, Lil Jon, whose real name is Jonathan Smith, and Nathan’s mother, Nicole Smith, described themselves as “extremely heartbroken” by the loss. They remembered Nathan as a caring, warmhearted son who loved his family and friends deeply. Lil Jon’s statement also celebrated Nathan’s talent as a music producer, creative artist and NYU graduate.
Known professionally as DJ Young Slade, Smith had begun building his own music career in Atlanta, releasing tracks like his single “Feels” in March 2025 and appearing on MTV’s “Family Legacy.” Loved by those who knew him, he is remembered for forging his own path in the industry while honoring his father’s influence.
Local teams, including police, fire divers and community volunteers, had scoured the area for days. When news broke Friday, neighbors and supporters gathered quietly, offering condolences and reflecting on a life full of promise cut tragically short. The family continues to request privacy as they mourn and await further details.
