San Antonio Jon Kross Perez Shot Dead While Walking to His Car

San Antonio woke up to another hard loss early Sunday morning when police found 26-year-old Jon Kross Perez fatally shot on the city’s East Side. It was the kind of quiet morning that usually passes without notice, until flashing lights and police tape changed the mood on Rigsby Avenue.

Officers were called around 7 a.m. to the 1600 block of Rigsby Avenue after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found Perez suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso. He was located toward the back of the property, already badly injured.

Investigators believe Perez had been walking toward his vehicle when he was shot. There were no immediate signs of what triggered the violence, and no clear indication of who may have been with him in the moments before it happened.

Emergency responders pronounced Perez dead at the scene. The Bexar County Medical Examiner later confirmed his identity, closing the door on any uncertainty but opening deep grief for family and friends who now have questions with no answers.

Police say they do not yet know what led up to the shooting. No suspect description has been released, and no arrests have been made. Detectives continue to work the case, canvassing the area and reviewing any possible evidence left behind.

For neighbors, the shooting has shaken a sense of normalcy. Early morning hours are usually calm on that stretch of the East Side, making the sudden loss feel even more jarring and close to home.

The investigation remains active. San Antonio police are urging anyone who may have seen or heard something, no matter how small it seems, to come forward as they work to piece together Perez’s final moments and find who is responsible.
