North Codorus Township: Beloved Glenville Man Dies in Early Morning Crash

North Codorus Township, Pennsylvania — Early on Thursday morning, the quiet stretch of Seven Valleys Road became the scene of a heartbreaking accident that took the life of 61‑year‑old John Gross of Glenville.

Just before 6:40 a.m., authorities say Gross was driving his Ford F‑150 northbound along the 1700 block of Seven Valleys Road when his pickup crossed over into oncoming traffic. At that moment, a fully loaded tractor‑trailer was coming south. The two vehicles collided head‑on with devastating force.

Rescue crews arrived within minutes to find the tractor‑trailer blazing, its cab and cargo engulfed in flames. Despite the rapid response, emergency personnel could not save Gross. A deputy coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor‑trailer, a 55‑year‑old man from Ohio, escaped serious injury. He told investigators he was on his way to Shrewsbury to pick up a scheduled load of eggs at the time of the crash and has cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation.

Friends and neighbors in Glenville described Gross as a quiet, dependable presence in the community, the kind of neighbor who was always ready to offer a hand or a wave. His sudden loss has left a gap in the tight‑knit area that will be deeply felt for years.

Police have stressed that the cause of the crash remains under review. Investigators are examining whether road conditions, visibility, or driver factors contributed to the pickup crossing the center line.

Gross leaves behind family, friends, and a community united in shock and sorrow. As plans for memorial gatherings begin, many in Glenville are focusing on shared memories and the impact he had on those around him.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or may have information to reach out to the Northern York County Regional Police Department as part of the continuing inquiry.
