A routine late-January drive turned into tragedy on Wednesday morning in Rapides Parish when 44-year-old Latrice Y. Robinson of Marksville lost her life in a brutal head-on crash that shook families and snarled traffic near Tyler Road. The wreck happened around 10:48 a.m. January 28, and Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop E were among the first on the scene.
Robinson was southbound on Louisiana Highway 1 in her 2015 Ford Focus when she tried to pass a slow line of vehicles. According to the initial state police investigation, her car crossed over the centerline into oncoming traffic during that maneuver. At the same moment, a northbound 2016 Infiniti QX8 was approaching, and the two vehicles collided directly, leaving both cars badly mangled.
Despite wearing her seatbelt, Robinson suffered fatal injuries in the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders worked quickly, but the force of the collision left little hope for saving her life. Loved ones are now coming to terms with the sudden loss of someone remembered as a caring neighbor and family member.
The driver and a passenger in the Infiniti were also wearing seatbelts and survived the crash with moderate injuries. Both were treated at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further medical care. State police have not released their names, but officials say their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Troopers collected routine toxicology samples as part of the investigation, a standard step in fatal crashes. At this stage, authorities have not pointed to specific causes such as impairment or distraction, saying the inquiry remains open. They did note that distracted and inattentive driving remains a major problem on Louisiana roads, urging motorists to stay focused and cautious.
The road was blocked for hours as crews cleared the wreckage and investigators pieced together what happened. Local residents were left shaken by the scene and reminded of how quickly a familiar commute can turn tragic.
