The quiet of a Friday afternoon in Clovis was shattered when 43-year-old Daniel Dale Flores was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Church of Christ on Pile Street. The deadly incident happened around 4:20 p.m. on May 29, sending police officers, emergency crews, and investigators rushing to the scene as stunned community members tried to understand what had happened.
According to investigators, Flores was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the church parking lot located at 1521 Pile Street. Officers and EMS personnel immediately began life-saving efforts, but Flores was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting quickly triggered a major investigation involving the Clovis Police Department and the Major Crimes Unit.
Detectives spent hours reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, collecting forensic evidence, and following up on information provided by local residents. Authorities said the case moved quickly because of the amount of evidence gathered from multiple sources and the willingness of community members to come forward with information.
The investigation eventually led detectives to identify 41-year-old Andrew Robles of Clovis as the suspect in the killing. Police said Robles was taken into custody and transported to the Curry County Detention Center without incident.
Robles now faces serious charges, including first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and tampering with evidence. Investigators also recovered the firearm they believe was used during the deadly shooting, an important development that helped strengthen the case against the suspect.
During the investigation, police publicly released images of individuals who were seen near the area around the time of the shooting. One person wearing a red shirt initially drew attention from investigators. However, after further review of surveillance footage and additional witness interviews, detectives determined that the individual was not present during the shooting and had no connection to the crime.
Authorities emphasized that surveillance video, forensic findings, witness statements, and tips from the public all played major roles in identifying the suspect. Police said community cooperation proved critical in helping investigators move from the initial response to an arrest in a relatively short period of time.
While an arrest has now been made, investigators say the case remains active as detectives continue reviewing evidence and preparing the case for prosecution.
