Chelsea Lumpkin, Monroe: Woman Thrown From SUV After Deadly State Route 10 Crash

A quiet Saturday morning in Walton County turned tragic after a 32-year-old Monroe woman lost her life in a devastating single-vehicle crash along State Route 10 near Cedar Ridge Road. Authorities said the wreck happened on the morning of May 23, leaving family members and local residents shaken by the sudden loss.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Chelsea Lumpkin was driving a black Toyota 4Runner westbound on State Route 10 when the vehicle suddenly left the roadway. Troopers said the SUV traveled onto the north shoulder before crashing hard into a tree.

Investigators said Lumpkin was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The impact partially ejected her from the vehicle, causing severe injuries that proved fatal. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but officials said she was pronounced dead there before she could be transported for medical care.

The crash happened without any other vehicles involved. Troopers said there were no reports of additional injuries, and no passengers were inside the SUV when the collision occurred. Authorities also confirmed that Lumpkin’s family had been notified following the heartbreaking incident.

Drivers passing through the area later Saturday reportedly saw emergency crews and patrol units surrounding the damaged vehicle near the roadside. The violent impact left investigators working for hours to piece together exactly what went wrong on the stretch of highway.

Officials said the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team has joined the investigation to help determine what may have caused Lumpkin to lose control of the SUV. At this point, authorities have not publicly released any findings regarding speed, impairment, weather, or mechanical issues.

The tragedy has added to growing concerns about roadway safety and the dangers of traveling without a seatbelt. For many in Monroe, the sudden death of a young woman on an ordinary weekend morning is another painful reminder of how quickly lives can change on the road.
