Greensboro, Georgia: Bonnie Brown, former student testifies as Snapchat messages turn into alleged abuse at Nathanael Greene Academy

Bonnie Brown, a former Nathanael Greene Academy teacher, is at the center of a criminal case unfolding in Greene County, Georgia, where testimony has brought new attention to allegations involving a student she once taught. The case has drawn jurors into detailed accounts of how an educator-student relationship allegedly crossed legal and ethical boundaries.

A 19-year-old former student testified in court that what began as casual communication on Snapchat with Brown eventually escalated into sexual encounters while he was still a ninth-grade student. He described Brown as one of his teachers at Nathanael Greene Academy, where she taught language arts and supervised study hall.

According to his testimony, the communication started during the school year and continued both during and outside school hours. He told the court that Brown was approachable and friendly, which made it easier for conversations to continue beyond classroom settings.

The former student said the tone of their exchanges shifted after a school-related literary event in Macon. He testified that their messages became increasingly personal and later sexual in nature, primarily conducted through Snapchat where messages disappeared after being viewed.

He told jurors that the first alleged sexual encounter happened at his aunt’s home shortly before spring break in 2023. He further testified that a second encounter took place during spring break at Brown’s home after arrangements were made through their prior conversations.

The witness also stated that Brown sent him explicit images through Snapchat during their communication. He explained that the use of the app allowed their exchanges to remain less traceable, which he said contributed to the secrecy surrounding the relationship.

Brown has been charged with eight counts of improper sexual contact by an educator in the first degree. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains at the center of the ongoing trial, where prosecutors allege she engaged in sexual conduct with a student while employed at the private school.

Court proceedings continue as jurors weigh testimony describing both the timeline of events and the nature of the communications between teacher and student, which prosecutors argue formed the basis of the alleged misconduct.
