Robert Murgatroyd Muskingum County, Ohio: Interstate 70 crash leaves Zanesville man dead after violent multi-vehicle chain reaction

Robert Murgatroyd was killed on a quiet late-morning drive that turned deadly in seconds on Interstate 70 westbound in Muskingum County, Ohio.

The crash happened around 10:33 a.m. near milepost 151, when traffic was moving normally through the stretch outside Zanesville.

According to investigators, trouble began when a 2008 Kia Rondo suffered a sudden flat tire. The driver, a man from Pennsylvania, attempted to steer toward the median but lost control.

The vehicle drifted back into the left lane and struck Robert Murgatroyd’s 2017 Ford F-150. The impact was forceful enough to change the entire direction of the crash.

Murgatroyd’s truck was pushed across lanes and into a 2014 International semi-truck. The collision created a chain reaction that left little time for any driver to react.

After the second impact, his truck went off the left side of the roadway and overturned.
Emergency crews arrived quickly, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Muskingum County Coroner.

Authorities with the Ohio State Highway Patrol have confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing as they work to fully understand the sequence of events.

For those who knew Robert, the news has been devastating. Friends and family are left holding on to memories of a man whose life ended far too suddenly on an ordinary highway stretch.
