A quiet night turned into a nightmare for one local neighborhood. Mechanicsville lost a cherished mother of two in a heartbreaking tragedy. The pain is still very raw for her family and friends.
Deputies got an emergency call around 8:10 p.m. on June 12. They rushed to a home in the 7400 block of Mook Court. The report was for a suspicious death.

First responders walked into a grim scene. They found 45-year-old Kristen Michelle Moolhuyzen lifeless inside her own house. Fire and EMS crews officially pronounced her dead at 8:23 p.m.
Investigators immediately started looking for answers. They collected physical evidence right there at the scene. The clues quickly pointed to her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Aaron Geiges.
The 44-year-old suspect lived over in Goochland. Police launched a fast-paced search to track him down. They soon spotted his car parked outside an apartment complex on Wilkes Ridge Place.
Virginia State Police moved in early the next morning. They brought search warrants for the apartment on June 13. Inside the unit, troopers found Geiges dead.
Officials are keeping the exact details of his death under wraps for now. Hanover County Sheriff Greg Six called the whole ordeal a senseless act of violence. He also praised the teamwork of the different police departments.
Kristen leaves behind a grieving community. Most importantly, she leaves behind her son, Declan, and her daughter, Tatum. Loved ones quickly set up a GoFundMe page with a $5,500 goal to help cover funeral costs.
The investigation is still wide open. Detectives are trying to connect all the final dots. They are asking anyone with a tip to call the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office or drop an anonymous message on the P3 Tips app.
