Royce Sims, Artavius Sims, and Raniah Simpson Identified as Victims in Fatal I-65 Crash in Hobart
HOBART, Ind. — Indiana State Police have identified the victims killed in a devastating Interstate 65 crash in Hobart as 9-year-old Royce Sims, 5-year-old Artavius Sims, and 19-year-old Raniah Simpson.
The crash happened shortly after midnight on May 15 along southbound I-65 near Ridge Road when a Ford Explorer driven by 31-year-old Renee Foster of Gary allegedly rear-ended a disabled semi-truck parked on the shoulder at a high rate of speed.

Authorities said the collision caused catastrophic damage to the SUV, killing three passengers and critically injuring 7-year-old Terrion, who was airlifted to the University of Chicago Medical Center for treatment.
Investigators said Foster told troopers she had fallen asleep behind the wheel before the crash. She was also injured and transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point.
Recommended charges submitted to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office include neglect of a dependent, reckless driving, driving while suspended, and child restraint violations.
The fatal I-65 crash remains under investigation, and toxicology results are pending. See less
