CHARLOTTE Woman Ina Michelle Lang Fatally Shot Near Northwest Bank of America

Charlotte police are piecing together a story that has shocked neighbors and coworkers after Ina Michelle Lang, 50, was shot and killed in broad daylight Friday morning near a Bank of America branch in northwest Charlotte. The shooting unfolded just after 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot along Callabridge Court, close to Brookshire Boulevard, where Lang was found suffering from a gunshot wound and later pronounced dead.

Friends, family and colleagues are struggling to make sense of it all. Lang, a long-time banker at Bank of America since 2009, had been working as a Senior Banker and was well liked by those who knew her. Her husband, Mike Lang, confirmed her death on social media, and posts from friends described her as kind and dedicated to her work and community.

Police from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) rushed to the scene after multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the busy bank parking area. Investigators say the shooting appears to be an isolated homicide, and there is no indication that the public is otherwise at risk. Officers cordoned off the area as they collected evidence and spoke with witnesses who were shaken by the violence in a normally quiet part of the city.

Later that day, a SWAT team standoff in another part of the city was tied to the investigation. Officers surrounded a home several miles from the bank, using loudspeakers and attempting to get a suspect to surrender. That person ultimately came out of the house and was taken into custody, though police have not publicly shared the name, motive, or charges as of evening.

Friends have painted a picture of Lang as someone who had spent more than 15 years with Bank of America, where she built relationships with colleagues and clients alike. Before her banking career, she also worked with coworkers at a Starbucks inside Universal Orlando Resort, a detail shared by a former teammate on social media.

Authorities say they are continuing to investigate what led up to the deadly encounter. Detectives and crime scene teams remained on site Friday afternoon and into the evening, canvassing the area near the bank and asking anyone with information to come forward. Police have urged residents with any tips to reach out through Charlotte Crime Stoppers or by calling homicide detectives directly.

For now, the community mourns a life cut short in a sudden act of violence. Lang’s family, friends and coworkers remember her as a warm presence and a steady professional — and are left searching for answers in the wake of her tragic loss.
