NORWOOD, Ohio — What began as a normal workday at a Skyline Chili restaurant ended in tragedy Tuesday when 27-year-old Alyssa Hill, a mother of two young children, was fatally stabbed inside the restaurant where she worked.
Police said the attack happened around 12:30 p.m. at the Skyline Chili location on Montgomery Road. Officers rushed to the scene after reports of a stabbing and found Hill suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the restaurant.
Emergency crews transported Hill to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save her, she later died from her injuries. Her death has left family members, friends, co-workers, and the broader community grieving a heartbreaking loss.
Authorities arrested 37-year-old Rick Wright shortly after the incident. Investigators allege Wright stabbed Hill before fleeing the scene. He was later taken into custody and charged with murder.
According to investigators, Hill and Wright had previously been involved in a relationship. Court records identify Wright as Hill’s former boyfriend, adding another painful layer to a case that has shaken many people across the community.
During Wright’s first court appearance on Wednesday, a judge ordered that he remain behind bars without bond while awaiting a detention hearing scheduled for Friday. Prosecutors argued that he poses a serious risk to public safety.
Court proceedings also revealed details about Wright’s criminal background. Prosecutors said he has prior convictions that include assault, menacing, robbery, drug trafficking, and carrying a concealed weapon. Records further show he allegedly had an active warrant after violating probation connected to an assault case earlier this year.
Speaking in court, Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office representative Sarah McMahon described Hill as far more than a victim. She called her “a mother, daughter, co-worker and a friend,” emphasizing the deep pain her death has caused those who knew and loved her.
For Hill’s family, the tragedy is especially devastating because she leaves behind two young children. Loved ones are now facing the difficult reality of moving forward without a woman they say played an important role in many lives.
As the criminal case moves through the court system, investigators with the Norwood Police Department continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the deadly stabbing. Meanwhile, a community mourns the loss of a young mother whose life ended far too soon.
