Haughton, La. — Preston Workman Killed in Early Morning Motorcycle Crash on Sligo Road

The quiet stretch of Sligo Road in Haughton turned tragic in the early hours of Monday morning, when a local man lost his life in a sudden and violent motorcycle crash. Authorities say 43-year-old Preston Workman was riding through the dark just after 1 a.m., a routine ride that ended in heartbreak.

Louisiana State Police Troopers from Troop G responded to the scene near Mayflower Road, where they found the wreckage of a 2025 Harley-Davidson scattered along the roadway. Early findings show that Workman was heading east when his motorcycle drifted across the centerline. Moments later, it struck an uneven section of the shoulder, causing the bike to overturn.

The impact was severe. Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Workman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The force of the crash left little chance for survival, marking a devastating end to what began as a late-night ride.

A passenger who was riding with him also wore a helmet and survived the crash, though not without serious injuries. Emergency responders transported the individual to a nearby hospital, where they remain under medical care. Their condition has not been publicly updated.

Investigators are still working to understand what led to the crash. At this point, officials have not confirmed whether impairment was a factor. As part of standard procedure, toxicology samples were collected and are now being analyzed.

The roadway itself is also under scrutiny. Troopers noted the uneven shoulder where the motorcycle lost control, raising questions about whether road conditions may have contributed to the deadly sequence of events.

For now, the community is left with grief and unanswered questions. A man’s life was cut short in an instant, and another fights to recover. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.
