San Antonio Sunset Bend Woman Shot to Death in Suspected Murder‑Suicide

The body of 37‑year‑old Jennifer Rodriguez was found inside a home on Sunset Bend in San Antonio on the evening of March 8, leaving family, friends and colleagues stunned. Deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call shortly before 7:45 p.m. and discovered Rodriguez and a man later identified as 39‑year‑old Marcus James unresponsive inside a bedroom.

Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head. Preliminary evidence at the scene indicated Rodriguez was shot first before James turned the weapon on himself. A 9 mm handgun was found near the two bodies and both were pronounced dead at 7:56 p.m. that Sunday. The county medical examiner later ruled Rodriguez’s death a homicide and James’ death a suicide.

Rodriguez worked at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office in the misdemeanor filing center and had been part of the team for about three years. Colleagues described her as warm, dependable and dedicated to her job. Her sudden death has left the office deeply saddened, with co‑workers remembering her positive attitude and the respect she earned from peers. Funeral services were scheduled for March 20.

Investigators said the couple had been in a dating relationship, and they are continuing to piece together what led up to the tragedy. Sheriff’s officials have been reviewing forensic evidence and speaking with people who may have insights into the events that preceded the shooting.

Detectives noted there was an earlier disturbance at a bar over the weekend, but they have not confirmed whether that incident directly connects to what happened that night.

Neighbors in the quiet Sunset Bend neighborhood were shaken by the sudden law enforcement presence when deputies arrived. One resident described seeing emergency lights flood the street and numerous sheriff’s deputies at the scene. Authorities said the house had been the subject of four earlier calls between March and August 2025 for issues like verbal disturbances and threats, but James was not involved in any of those calls.

Friends and co‑workers of Rodriguez are trying to make sense of the loss. Many speak of her enthusiasm for her work and the genuine care she showed toward those around her. The District Attorney’s Office released statements mourning her passing and offering support to her loved ones during this difficult time.

The homicide unit from the sheriff’s office continues to investigate. They stated that while the evidence so far points to a murder‑suicide, they are still working to confirm the exact sequence of events and rule out any other factors that might have contributed to what happened that night.
