ST. TAMMANY PARISH CRASH CLAIMS LIFE OF JESSICA CANNATELLA ON RURAL HIGHWAY

St. Tammany Parish — Jessica G. Cannatella, 47, of Ponchatoula died Tuesday afternoon after a head‑on collision on Louisiana Highway 1085 near Alice Street. Authorities say the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on March 17, 2026, when another vehicle crossed the center line and struck her SUV.

Cannatella was driving her 1999 Jeep Cherokee southbound when a 2014 Nissan Murano, driven by 38‑year‑old Holly M. Williams of Abita Springs, crossed into her lane. The impact was immediate and severe. Cannatella, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died.

Williams was properly restrained and also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. A passenger in Williams’ vehicle, unrestrained at the time of the crash, was injured and received medical care, though police have not released details about that person’s identity or condition.

State Police say Williams showed signs of impairment at the scene. She was arrested and will face multiple felony charges once released from the hospital. Those charges include vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, third‑offense driving while intoxicated, careless operation, and possession of a fake motor vehicle inspection sticker. Under Louisiana law, a third‑offense DWI is a felony that carries heavy fines and possible prison time.

Friends and family describe Cannatella as a warm presence in her community. Neighbors said she was known for her kindness and for always taking time to help others. The news of her death has shaken relatives and longtime acquaintances who are now mourning her sudden loss

Highway 1085 is a two‑lane rural road that threads through wooded areas and small communities in the northern part of the parish. The stretch near Alice Street where the crash happened sees regular local traffic but few major incidents, making Tuesday’s deadly collision all the more shocking to residents.

Drunk driving remains a serious concern in Louisiana, where alcohol‑related traffic deaths are consistently higher than the national average. Local leaders and safety advocates say more needs to be done to stop impaired driving and protect people on the road.

Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the crash. No further details have been released, and authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
