Mason Alkire, Texas: Young Maryland rider tragically loses life in high-speed highway collision.

A routine Monday evening drive for a Stamford local turned into a nightmare on State Highway 6 in Jones County. Jeremy Harris was behind the wheel of his 2022 Ford F-350, hauling a heavy dump trailer, when the unthinkable happened. He was heading northbound through a stretch of road with a 75 mph speed limit when his truck was struck from behind.

The person on the other end of that collision was 22-year-old Mason Alkire. Mason was visiting from Barton, Maryland, and was riding a brand new 2025 Kawasaki Ninja. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Mason was traveling at a very high speed and had just moved to overtake another vehicle before hitting the rear of Jeremy’s trailer.

The crash happened under a clear Texas sky with perfectly dry roads. There were no environmental factors to blame here, just a tragic sequence of events on the asphalt. Investigators believe Mason lost control of his speed after re-entering the lane, making the collision with the heavy truck unavoidable.

Jeremy Harris was buckled up and escaped the wreck without a scratch on him. However, the scene left behind was somber. Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guemsey arrived to confirm the worst, pronouncing the young Maryland native dead at the scene of the accident.

Even though Mason was wearing a helmet, the sheer force of hitting a vehicle as large as an F-350 and a dump trailer proved to be fatal. It’s a scenario that first responders see too often on these long stretches of highway where speeds are high and margins for error are slim.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is still putting all the pieces together to finalize their report. They are looking at the speed and the maneuvers made just before 7:30 p.m. that night. It is a meticulous process to ensure every detail is accounted for in such a serious investigation.

For those involved, the road will never look the same. A young rider’s life ended far too soon, and a local driver is left with the memory of a Monday evening that changed everything. It’s a tragedy that resonates from the rural roads of Jones County all the way back to the East Coast.
