Anderson, South Carolina — A man died early Thursday morning after shots were fired outside an apartment complex on Palmetto Lane, sheriff’s deputies confirmed. The shooting happened just after 4:20 a.m. near the Hampton Greene Apartments, leaving neighbors shaken and investigators scrambling for answers.
Deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office were called to the scene after someone reported gunfire in the quiet neighborhood, police said. When emergency crews arrived, they found an adult man unresponsive near a green vehicle that had crashed into a parked car. The victim was pronounced dead on site.

People who live in the complex told responders they heard a motorcycle pull up, followed by a crash and then gunshots. Seconds later, the motorcycle reportedly started again and left the area, residents said. Investigators are still piecing together exactly what happened in those final minutes before the victim collapsed. The scene remains under active investigation.
Law enforcement sources said detectives have tracked leads and identified a suspect connected to the shooting. Police later arrested a man believed to be involved, though authorities haven’t publicly released his name or the victim’s identity as they continue working through the case details.
Early information from the sheriff’s office suggests the shooting may have stemmed from a domestic situation involving the suspect and someone at the apartment before it turned deadly. Anderson County deputies said they are interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence to better understand the chain of events.
The victim’s family has not yet spoken to the media, and detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward to help the investigation. Officers continue to canvas the area around Palmetto Lane searching for additional clues.
Officials have reminded residents that investigations like this can take time and asked for patience as they work through forensic analysis and interviews. The sheriff’s office and coroner’s team said they hope to release more information as soon as it becomes available.
