At almost the exact same moment, a 22-year-old woman from Kinsman was heading northbound on Kinsman Road in her brown 2013 Ford Escape. She had no way of knowing what was coming. Her vehicle slammed into the passenger side of Carlin’s pickup truck with enough force to flip the whole thing over. That violent roll sent Carlin flying out of the truck. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
Emergency crews got the call at around 7:09 a.m. and rushed out to that rural intersection near the small town of Kinsman. The Seneca Fire Department, Seneca EMS, Verona/Kinsman Fire Department, and the Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Ambulance all responded. There was nothing slow or casual about the scene they found. Carlin was on the ground, ejected, badly hurt. Responders worked fast and got him loaded up and transported to Morris Hospital as quickly as they could.
But it wasn’t enough. At Morris Hospital, Carlin McGarvey was pronounced dead. The official pronouncement was made by John Callahan.
