AUSTIN, Texas Shooting: Zach Barr Killed Outside Cabana Club in East Austin

Austin, Texas — A night out in East Austin ended in heartbreak when Zach Barr was shot and killed outside the Cabana Club, leaving a community stunned and searching for answers.

According to police, officers were called around 8:40 p.m. on Friday to 5012 E. 7th St. after reports of a disturbance outside the bar. What started as an argument among a group of people quickly turned violent in the back area of the venue.


When officers arrived just minutes later, they found Zach Barr suffering from serious traumatic injuries. Emergency responders immediately began life-saving efforts at the scene.

Despite those efforts, Barr was pronounced dead at 9:02 p.m. His death marked a sudden and devastating end to what had been an ordinary night in the city.

Several other people were also hurt during the incident. Some left the scene on their own while others were taken to nearby hospitals. Authorities have not released details about their conditions.

Police said the situation appears to have escalated fast and then unraveled, with most of the people involved leaving before officers could secure the area. No weapon was recovered at the scene.

The Cabana Club area was shut down as investigators combed through evidence and tried to piece together what led to the deadly confrontation. Officials described the shooting as isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public.
