LOGAN COUNTY: Spring Weems Found Dead in Trash Can, Adoptive Son Arrested

LOGAN COUNTY, Okla. — A quiet neighborhood north of Edmond is trying to make sense of something heartbreaking and bizarre this week after 49‑year‑old Spring Weems was found dead in a trash can outside her own home. Law enforcement officials say one of her adoptive teenage sons is in custody, accused of killing her in what deputies are calling a homicide.

It all began Wednesday afternoon when Logan County deputies were called out for what was described as a welfare check at a home near Bryant and Simmons Road along Treviso Trail. When officers arrived, they found two teens at the residence but no sign of the homeowner.

After deputies spoke with the teenagers and leaned into a tip, they discovered Weems’ body inside a large trash can beside the street. Authorities said her injuries were consistent with homicide, though they have not shared specifics about how she died or what weapon may have been involved.

One of the teens at the home told officers that his mother was “in the trash can,” prompting the grim discovery, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office and OSBI worked together on the case. The teenager suspected in her death, who has not been named because he is a juvenile, was booked on a first‑degree murder complaint and taken to the Canadian County Juvenile Detention Center — the nearest facility equipped to house juveniles like him.

Neighbors are shaken. Many described Weems as a vibrant part of the community — someone who lit up rooms and cared deeply about her family. The thought of violence so close to home has left people struggling to understand what could have preceded such an event.

Investigators continue to piece together what led to her death. They are interviewing neighbors, checking surveillance footage, and waiting on the medical examiner’s report, which could take weeks to complete. Law enforcement has stressed the case remains active and details may change as more is learned.

For now, Spring Weems’ death stands as a tragic story of a life cut short and a community asking how and why something so awful could unfold right in their backyard.
