A quiet stretch of DeKalb County was shaken after authorities say 26-year-old Olaolukitan Obaf Adon-Abel carried out a deadly shooting spree that left two women dead and a man fighting for his life. The violence spilled into nearby Brookhaven, turning an ordinary day into a scene of fear and confusion. For many residents, the shock still lingers as investigators piece together what led to the sudden burst of violence.
Officials confirmed that Adon-Abel is now in custody. Police say the attacks were connected and unfolded across multiple locations, though details about the exact sequence remain limited. What is clear is the toll: two lives lost and another hanging in the balance. Families are grieving, and a community is struggling to make sense of the tragedy.

Newly obtained records reveal that Adon-Abel once served in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted on November 24, 2020, and worked as an Aviation Structural Mechanic 3rd Class. Holding the rank of E-4, he trained at several major Navy installations, including Great Lakes in Illinois, Pensacola in Florida, and Lemoore in California. His assignments later placed him with Strike Fighter Squadron 115 and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41.
During his time in service, Adon-Abel earned multiple awards. These included the Navy “E” Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Records also show he received two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and two Overseas Service Ribbons. On paper, it was a record that reflected structure and achievement.
But questions are now circling around his separation from the military. Official documents list a separation date of September 6, 2024, with his duty status marked as “reported detached.” Authorities have not released further details about what led to that exit. The gap between a decorated service record and the current allegations is now at the center of public concern.
Neighbors and residents across DeKalb County say the incident has left them unsettled. Many are still trying to process how someone with a disciplined background could be accused of such violence. The sense of safety in familiar neighborhoods has been shaken, replaced by caution and unanswered questions.
Investigators continue to work through the case, focusing on motive and timeline. For now, the priority remains supporting the victims and their families. As the legal process begins, the community waits, hoping for clarity and some measure of closure in the days ahead.
