It began just after noon. Officers were called around 12:12 p.m. to a home in the 210 block of Park Avenue after reports of gunfire. When police entered the residence, they found four people already dead from gunshot wounds. There was no chance for medical help.
Investigators quickly identified McFarland as the suspected shooter. They say he had already fled the scene before officers arrived, leaving behind a home shattered by violence and shock.
The search did not last long. Authorities later found him on the Riverfront Trail near a pedestrian bridge. He had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
As the investigation expanded, officers were called to additional locations tied to the case. At a residence in the 1500 block of Mill Street, they found another adult male dead. A separate victim was later discovered at a business on Grand Avenue. All victims are believed to be connected to McFarland through family ties.
Officials confirmed a total of seven deaths, including McFarland himself. Police have not released the names of all victims as they work to notify relatives. Early findings suggest the violence stemmed from a domestic dispute inside the family.
