Turtlecreek Township, Ohio — A quiet stretch of State Route 741 turned into a scene of heartbreak Friday night when 17‑year‑old Dylan Sougstad of Cincinnati lost his life in a head‑on collision with a northbound SUV, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash happened just before 10 p.m. near milepost 6, on a rural part of the road where headlights cut through darkness and families were getting ready for the weekend.
Sougstad was behind the wheel of a 2019 Tesla Model 3, heading southbound, when the vehicle drifted left of the center line and struck a 2020 GMC Terrain driven by 53‑year‑old Chastity Smith of Trenton. Both vehicles were thrown off the roadway in opposite directions by the force of the impact, leaving wreckage scattered across both shoulders.

First responders arrived quickly, but neither driver survived the crash. Troopers pronounced both Dylan and Smith dead at the scene. The stretch of SR 741 between Hamilton Road and State Route 63 was closed for hours as crews worked to clear debris and investigators documented the scene.
Those who knew Dylan describe him as a young man with a full life ahead of him — a son, a friend, a student with plans, hopes and all the ordinary dreams of a 17‑year‑old. Word of his passing rippled through his school community and social circles, leaving classmates and neighbors in disbelief that someone so young could be gone so suddenly.
Family members and friends gathered over the weekend to share memories of Dylan’s laugh, his kindness and the everyday moments that now seem all the more precious. Messages of support and sympathy poured in, offering comfort to those struggling with the loss and reminding them of the impact he had in the short time he was here.
Chastity Smith’s family has also been left to mourn. She was known locally, remembered by those who crossed her path as a steady presence with ties to the Trenton community. Her loss has brought a somber stillness to friends and relatives who are now beginning the difficult process of grieving.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate what led to the collision. Authorities have said they will release further details as the inquiry unfolds, but so far no additional factors such as weather or impairment have been publicly cited. Meanwhile, both families are leaning on community support, faith and shared memories as they try to make sense of the night that changed so many lives.
