Harlem Crash Kills Darly Zacarias, Driver Kevin Crosby Charged in Deadly DUI Incident

The stretch of West 125th Street in Harlem turned into a scene of panic and heartbreak Thursday night, when a violent crash claimed the life of 28-year-old delivery worker Darly Zacarias. Police say the chaos unfolded just after 8 p.m., leaving multiple people injured and a community shaken on one of its busiest corridors.

According to investigators, 49-year-old Kevin Crosby was behind the wheel of a red Hyundai Tucson heading westbound when everything spiraled out of control. Authorities say he first struck two cyclists, then slammed into two separate vehicles, an unoccupied NYPD cruiser, and finally a parked tractor-trailer. The impact set off a chain reaction that witnesses described as fast, loud, and terrifying.

Zacarias, a Bronx resident, did not survive the crash. He was pronounced dead following the collision. Another cyclist remains in critical condition, fighting for their life at Harlem Hospital. Three additional individuals who were inside vehicles struck during the crash were treated for injuries described as stable.

The crash happened near the iconic Apollo Theater, an area known for heavy foot traffic and constant movement. On a typical evening, the block is alive with music, street vendors, and commuters. But on this night, the energy quickly shifted as sirens filled the air and emergency crews rushed in.

For those who knew Zacarias, the loss cuts especially deep. His best friend said the two had grown up together in the Dominican Republic before moving to the Bronx about five years ago. They worked side by side as delivery workers, often putting in long 13-hour days to make ends meet.

What makes the tragedy even harder is the timing. Zacarias leaves behind a young son who had just turned 10 years old the very next day. Friends say he was a devoted father who worked tirelessly to provide, rarely taking a break and always focused on his family.

Police confirmed Crosby was taken into custody at the scene. He now faces charges including manslaughter and driving while under the influence. Investigators are continuing to piece together exactly what led to the crash, but the damage left behind is already painfully clear for everyone involved.
