Sunday morning in Fort Greene turned into a scene of tragedy when 43-year-old Jamal Davis was shot and killed inside his Brooklyn apartment.
Police said officers rushed to 75 Cumberland Walk after a 911 call came in around 10:52 a.m. reporting a shooting inside a residential building.

When officers reached the 12th-floor apartment, they found Davis with multiple gunshot wounds. He had been hit in the chest and arm during what investigators believe was a sudden confrontation inside the home.
Emergency responders quickly transported him to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Despite medical efforts to save him, he later died from his injuries.
Investigators believe the shooter is a 16-year-old boy who was inside the apartment at the time. He is also believed to be the son of Davis’s girlfriend, adding a painful family layer to the incident.
After the shooting, the teenager reportedly fled the scene on foot. Police have not yet been able to locate him.
A heavy NYPD presence followed the incident, with officers securing the building and sweeping the surrounding area for any trace of the suspect or evidence that could explain what happened.
Neighbors described the shock of hearing that violence unfolded inside what had appeared to be a normal family home. Many said the news left them unsettled and saddened.
Investigators are still working to understand what led to the confrontation. While the exact motive has not been confirmed, early findings suggest a domestic dispute may have escalated quickly into gunfire.
