Twin City, Georgia is waking up to grief after a family argument turned deadly Monday morning. At about 10 a.m. on January 26, police and investigators were called to a home on 2nd Street in the heart of this small Emanuel County town. What began as a dispute between two brothers ended with the younger sibling, 35‑year‑old LaCorey White, shot and killed.
LaCorey was a lifelong Twin City resident known to many in this close‑knit community. Neighbors say he was often friendly and quick with a laugh, the sort of person who knew almost everyone on his street. When first responders arrived at the scene, he was already gone, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirms he was pronounced dead there at the house.

His brother, 44‑year‑old LaMarkius Tiwaun White of nearby Vidalia, now sits in the Emanuel County Jail. Law enforcement charged him with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a felony in connection with LaCorey’s death. The GBI says the two were involved in an argument that escalated to gunfire.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will oversee the autopsy, which will be carried out by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler. Officials say this step is part of their thorough effort to understand exactly how and why this tragedy unfolded.
For many in Twin City, the loss feels incomprehensible. Folks at local cafés and in churches speak about LaCorey’s easy way of greeting others, the neighbor who would help with yard work or stop to chat about the weather. His death has left friends and family stunned, trying to make sense of how a routine disagreement could spiral so quickly into fatal violence.
Authorities continue to investigate the case. Once they wrap up their work, they’ll send everything they’ve gathered to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office to begin the formal prosecution. In the meantime, law enforcement is urging anyone with information to reach out to the GBI’s Eastman office or the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office.
In a town where everyone knows someone who knows someone, the impact of this loss is deeply felt. Candlelight vigils and quiet conversations at the local diner tell a story of a community coming together, mourning a life taken too soon, and hoping for answers in the days ahead.
