The quiet of a Huntsville neighborhood was shattered Tuesday night when 19-year-old Kiriyanah Harris was found dead inside a home near University Drive and Pulaski Pike. What began as a routine welfare check quickly turned into a homicide investigation, leaving a family grieving and a community shaken.
Police say officers were called to the residence around 8:30 p.m. on April 14. When they arrived, they discovered Harris unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not publicly detailed the exact circumstances surrounding her death, but confirmed it is being treated as a killing.

Harris was more than just a name in a report. To her family, she was a young woman with purpose. She was studying nursing at Drake State Community College, working toward a future centered on helping others. Loved ones describe her as warm, driven, and full of life, someone who carried both ambition and kindness in equal measure.
Within hours of the discovery, police identified a suspect. Jon Savion Clemons, 20, was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection to Harris’ death. The arrest, however, did not come quietly. During the process, Clemons was shot and later transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators are still working to piece together what happened in the hours leading up to Harris’ death. They are urging anyone who may have seen or heard something to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could help clarify the timeline of events.
Back at home, Harris’ family is left to process a loss that feels both sudden and overwhelming. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with funeral and memorial expenses, a reflection of how quickly tragedy can turn into financial strain for grieving loved ones.
As the case unfolds, one thing remains clear: a young life with promise has been cut short, and a community now waits for answers that may bring some measure of closure.
