Liberty, Texas — A quiet Friday evening turned into a scene of deep loss after a fatal crash along FM 563 took the lives of four people, including a local driver and three young passengers. The impact has left a tight-knit community in shock and mourning.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the crash happened around 7 p.m. on April 10. A 2005 Chrysler 300, driven by 37-year-old Kara Beagle of Liberty, left the roadway about 0.8 miles south of Interstate 10. The vehicle then struck a tree with severe force, ending in a deadly impact.
Inside the car were three passengers: 19-year-old Jay’Shawn Godfrey of Houston, and two juveniles aged 17 and 15. Authorities confirmed that all four occupants died at the scene. The names of the two minors have not been released publicly.
Investigators believe speed may have played a role in the crash. Officials have not yet released further conclusions, and the case remains under active review as they work to reconstruct the final moments leading up to the collision.
News of the tragedy spread quickly through the Liberty Independent School District. District leaders confirmed that students from Liberty High School were among those lost. Superintendent Dusty McGee described a community overwhelmed with grief and leaning on one another for support.
Counseling services were made available immediately for students and staff. Teachers and classmates have been left struggling to process the sudden absence of young lives that were part of their daily routines just hours earlier.
