Wayne County felt a heavy silence this Monday morning after a terrible wreck on U.S. Route 52. Just before the sun started to peak over the trees, a young man’s life ended way too soon. Braden Murry was only 21 years old and lived right across the way in Louisa, Kentucky. He was driving through the Fort Gay area when things went wrong in a split second.
The clock hadn’t even hit 6 a.m. when the state troopers got the call. It is a drive many folks make every day, but this time, Braden’s car drifted across that yellow center line. He ended up right in the path of a massive tractor-trailer coming the other way. There was no time for anyone to move out of the way or stop what was coming.

When the two vehicles hit, the impact was absolutely devastating for the smaller car. It is the kind of noise that haunts a quiet morning. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as fast as they could, hoping for a miracle. Sadly, there wasn’t much they could do for the young driver.
Braden didn’t make it out of that crash. He was pronounced dead right there on the shoulder of the highway. It is a tough pill to swallow for a small town when a guy that young is taken out of the blue. He had his whole life ahead of him before that Monday morning commute turned into a nightmare.
The man behind the wheel of the big rig was physically okay, according to the police. He didn’t have any injuries to report, but he surely walked away with a heavy heart. No one else was hurt in the pileup, which is a small mercy in a situation this bad.
Right now, the West Virginia State Police are still trying to figure out the “why.” They don’t know for sure what made Braden’s car wander into the opposite lane. They are looking at the road and the car to see if they can find any real answers for the family.
Back home in Louisa, friends and family are just trying to wrap their heads around the news. It is a deep, stinging pain to lose someone who was just starting out. Everyone is leaning on each other now, mourning a life that was cut way too short on a dark stretch of road.
