Noble County, Okla. – A quiet stretch of U.S. 412 turned into heartbreak early Sunday when 24-year-old Haylee Lopez of Stillwater was killed in a deadly crash that started with her car striking a deer.
Shortly before 12:35 a.m. on March 1, Lopez was driving east on the highway when her vehicle hit a deer. The impact forced her to stop in the outside lane as she waited for help. That’s when another vehicle, a Ford F-250, slammed into her car, pushing both vehicles off the road and turning a scary moment into a fatal one.

Lopez died at the scene. A passenger in her car was hurt and taken to the hospital; their condition has not been released. The driver of the pickup walked away without serious injury.
Friends and family are reeling from the sudden loss. Lopez had just turned 24 a week earlier and was described by those who knew her as bright-spirited and caring. She grew up in Oklahoma, graduated from Santa Fe High School, and went on to earn her degree from Oklahoma State University.
She had recently started a job at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma in Edmond, where co-workers remember her as someone who gave her full heart to helping others. She was the kind of person who would stay late to make sure a family in need was fed, who checked in on people without being asked, and who brought a grounded warmth into every room.
Lopez was known for her authenticity — always wearing her favorite cowboy boots and meaningful jewelry, living simply but with intention. Loved ones say her laughter and kindness made life easier for those around her.
Her family is now left to navigate their grief and the practical burdens that come with a sudden tragedy. Close friends have gathered to support them, echoing the way Lopez supported others in her life.
Even in loss, her legacy is one of service and sincerity. Haylee’s name is being spoken with love in homes and churches across the region, a reminder of how deeply one life can matter. Her presence will be missed, and her memory will live on in the countless small acts of kindness she inspired.
