What they found was a grim scene involving a woman who had been shot during an aggravated assault. That woman was later identified as 49‑year‑old Anetra Riley of Valdosta.
Officials from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office say units arrived to the quiet, residential stretch of White Water Road and discovered Riley suffering from what investigators now classify as a gunshot wound in an aggravated assault. Neighbors who heard the shots described the sudden violence as shocking in an area where most evenings pass quietly.
Riley, a long‑time Valdosta resident known by friends and coworkers as someone always willing to help others, did not survive her injuries. Friends who spoke later described her as warm, caring, and deeply involved in her community.
