Lemarques Darden is 18 years old and now facing a murder charge after police say an argument over french fries turned violent inside a Fort Worth apartment complex. The shooting happened Jan. 28 in the 9500 block of Jeremiah Drive, leaving 19-year-old Jarvis Davis dead.
Officers responded around 6:30 p.m. that Wednesday after reports of gunfire. When they entered the apartment, they found Davis suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a hospital but died hours later.

Investigators say Darden and Davis were friends and neighbors who lived in the same complex. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the two had a verbal dispute before the shooting. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang. They then saw Davis slumped over on a couch while Darden ran from the scene carrying a handgun.
Police say the argument flared when Davis refused to share his french fries. What should have been a brief disagreement between friends quickly escalated. Detectives from the Gun Violence Unit identified Darden as the suspect soon after.
Authorities tracked Darden to Tyler, Texas. Nearly two weeks after the shooting, officers arrested him there. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Davis’ death a homicide caused by the gunshot wound. Officials have emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated, with no broader threat to the community.
Davis’ mother has described the killing as “senseless,” grieving the loss of her 19-year-old son over what police describe as a minor food dispute. A GoFundMe has been set up to support the family with counseling and time away from work as they navigate the painful aftermath of a moment that changed several lives forever.
