Spring Valley Lake Traffic Chase: Victorville Man Arrested After Fleeing Sheriff’s Stop

Spring Valley Lake, Calif. — Late Saturday night, a 22‑year‑old Victorville man was taken into custody after a brief but tense vehicle pursuit that ended in the quiet streets of Spring Valley Lake, authorities said. The incident drew sheriff’s units and a helicopter as neighbors looked on in surprise.

It started just before 9:20 p.m. on January 31, when San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull over a car near Bear Valley Road and Deep Creek Road in Apple Valley for what they described as vehicle code violations. Instead of stopping, the driver sped off, weaving through local roads.

Deputies soon identified the driver as Jordan Amaya, a young man from Victorville. Rather than yielding to the deputy’s lights and sirens, his vehicle continued through several intersections, violating multiple traffic laws as it raced toward Spring Valley Lake.

The chase finally came to an end when Amaya’s car rolled to a halt on Bermuda Dunes Road. Without warning, he bolted from the vehicle and sprinted into the nearby neighborhood. That’s when the sheriff’s helicopter joined the search, its spotlight sweeping over homes and streets while patrol cars fanned out on the ground.

After a careful search through backyards and alleyways, deputies located Amaya and placed him under arrest. There were no reports of shots fired, no injuries to deputies or bystanders, and no one was hurt during the pursuit.

Booking records showed Amaya facing multiple charges. They include evading a peace officer with disregard for safety, evading an officer by driving the wrong way, and a felony parole violation. Bail for the evading charge was set at $50,000, while the parole issue carries no bail. Court dates were scheduled for early February in Victorville Superior Court.

Neighbors in Spring Valley Lake described the scene as unsettling. What began as a routine traffic stop quickly turned into flashing lights and a swarm of deputies searching the quiet community. Residents said they were relieved the situation ended without injury.

In the calm hours after the arrest, sheriff’s officials reminded motorists that failing to stop for a lawful traffic stop can quickly escalate into dangerous encounters for the community and law enforcement. In this case, a late‑night decision to flee ended with a man in custody and only shaken nerves for those who watched the drama unfold.
