Baton Rouge Lineman Bevan Dupre Injured After Bucket Truck Bursts Into Flames

A routine workday in Baton Rouge turned into a terrifying fight for survival when utility lineman Bevan Dupre was suddenly trapped high above the street in a burning bucket truck. What happened next left witnesses stunned and his family praying for a miracle.

The incident unfolded around noon Tuesday at the busy intersection of Evangeline Street and North Foster Drive. Dupre was working from an aerial bucket when the equipment suddenly caught fire. Flames erupted around the elevated platform, sending thick black smoke billowing into the air as traffic continued passing below.

As the fire spread, Dupre found himself stranded more than twenty feet above the ground. Witnesses say he struggled desperately to escape while still attached to his safety harness. The blaze intensified quickly, leaving him with only seconds to act.

In a dramatic and frightening moment captured on video by bystanders, Dupre attempted to climb down from the burning bucket. At one point he dangled from his harness while the flames burned around him. Eventually he was forced to release himself and fell to the pavement below.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and quickly transported Dupre to a nearby hospital. He suffered severe burns along with injuries from the fall. Officials believe a mechanical failure may have triggered the fire, though the exact cause remains under investigation.

Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Dupre survived the fall. His wife Nicole later shared updates on his condition, describing his survival as nothing short of miraculous. She revealed that he has already undergone multiple surgeries and faces a long road to recovery inside a burn unit.
As the community learned about the incident, support for Dupre’s family quickly began pouring in. His sister, Caroline Blood of Ville Platte, launched an online fundraiser titled “Support for Bevan Dupre and His Family.” The campaign aims to raise $45,000 to help cover household needs and support Dupre, his wife, and their family while he undergoes treatment and recovery.

Within days, thousands of people had stepped forward to help. Donations pushed the fundraiser past $36,000, a powerful sign of community support for a man many describe as a devoted father, husband, brother, and provider. While Dupre’s recovery is expected to take time and many surgeries, his family says the outpouring of support has given them strength during a painful and uncertain moment.
