In a quiet residential corner of South Miami, the sudden loss of 46-year-old Luis Eduardo Quintero Sanchez has left neighbors shaken and searching for answers after a deadly shooting inside a home on Twin Lake Drive.
Authorities say the tragedy unfolded Sunday afternoon when officers responded to reports of gunfire at a residence located at 5711 Twin Lake Drive. Police arrived shortly before 2:30 p.m. and discovered two men inside the home suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later identified the second man as 63-year-old Peter Jesus Cabanzon, the husband of Quintero Sanchez. Detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office say the evidence points to a domestic-related murder-suicide. According to investigators, Cabanzon allegedly shot Quintero Sanchez before turning the gun on himself.
The couple had only recently married in February 2025, according to neighbors in the community. Those who lived nearby described the pair as familiar faces in the neighborhood, often seen together and known for being friendly and approachable.
One neighbor, still processing the news, described Cabanzon as an “excellent person,” someone who was social and easy to talk to. For many residents along Twin Lake Drive, the violence felt especially shocking in a neighborhood better known for its calm streets and close-knit feel.
After the initial response, homicide detectives from the sheriff’s office took over the investigation, combing through the home and speaking with neighbors in hopes of understanding what led up to the fatal shooting. Officials have not yet released further details about any argument or dispute that may have preceded the incident.
