SALEM, Ore. — Salem Man Marvin Miller Killed in Tragic Bike Crash

Salem is grieving after the sudden death of Marvin William Miller, 54, who died Monday afternoon when he was struck while riding his bicycle. Friends and neighbors are struggling to make sense of a life cut short on a quiet neighborhood street.

The crash happened at the corner of Pringle Road Southeast and Madrona Avenue Southeast just after midday. According to investigators, a van driven by a 27‑year‑old man was turning right onto Madrona when Marvin, riding in the marked bike lane on the east side of Pringle, fell and was hit by the vehicle. First responders pronounced Marvin dead at the scene.

People who knew Marvin describe him as the kind of man who brightened a room with a simple smile. He was often seen riding his bike through town, greeting people, and striking up friendly conversations. His warmth and generosity made him a familiar, beloved presence in Salem.

Marvin’s family says he lived with a quiet joy that drew people to him. He cared deeply about his community and was always ready to help someone in need. His sudden passing has left a hole in the lives of those who knew him best.

The driver of the van stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police. Officers with the Salem Police Traffic Team investigated the crash and closed the intersection for several hours while they worked. Police have asked anyone with additional information to contact them as the investigation continues.

Marvin’s loved ones are planning a private memorial service to celebrate his life. In place of flowers, they’ve asked well‑wishers to consider supporting bicycle safety efforts or road safety programs that could help prevent tragedies like this in the future.
Marvin William Miller will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his generosity, and his love for life. Salem mourns a neighbor whose presence lifted others and whose absence will be deeply felt.
