Truman James Greaves, a 19‑year‑old freshman at Purdue University from Zionsville, Indiana, was identified this week as the student found dead earlier this month inside a campus building.
Friends and classmates discovered Greaves inside the Physics Building in early March. Purdue and Tippecanoe County authorities confirmed his identity but have not released a cause of death, saying the investigation is still underway and there is no sign of foul play.

Greaves was a freshman in engineering in the Honors College. He moved to West Lafayette for school and had quickly made a name for himself as a promising student with a bright future.
At Zionsville Community High School he graduated summa cum laude, was a National Merit Finalist, and earned first place in a statewide innovation competition with his Compleyes.ai project. Peers describe him as humble, driven, and always ready to help others.
His family called him compassionate and curious, someone who loved rock climbing, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, and spending time with his two pet cats, Boulder and Pebbles. He was also active in debate and Model United Nations in high school.
The sudden loss has brought an outpouring of grief on campus and in his hometown. Purdue has made counseling services available to students and staff who are processing the news.
A celebration of life is scheduled for March 21 at St. Francis In‑The‑Fields Episcopal Church in Zionsville. His family has asked that memorial contributions be made to causes he cared about, including the Boone County/Zionsville chapter of PFLAG and World Central Kitchen.
