Cincinnati Rachel Tussey Dies After ‘Mommy Makeover’ Complications

Rachel Tussey wanted a fresh start. The 47-year-old mother of three from the Cincinnati area had spent weeks sharing her journey online, opening up about life, confidence, and her decision to undergo a “mommy makeover.” For her, it was more than cosmetic. It was personal.

On Feb. 25, she went in for surgery, hopeful and calm. In a video recorded from her hospital bed, she told her more than 78,000 TikTok followers that she felt safe. She smiled, spoke softly, and asked for prayers. It was the kind of moment that felt ordinary at the time. Looking back now, it carries a different weight.

Days later, everything changed. Her husband, Jeremy Tussey, told followers that Rachel suffered serious complications after the procedure at a plastic surgery center. While in recovery, she became unresponsive. Staff rushed to act. CPR was started. Emergency services were called.

She was taken to TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital. There, doctors delivered the kind of news no family is prepared for. Rachel had gone more than six minutes without oxygen. The damage was severe. She was later declared brain dead.

Machines kept her body going, but her condition did not improve. She was placed on life support, then moved to hospice care. Her family stayed close, holding on to hope while facing a painful reality.

An online fundraiser described the situation as an “unfortunate case of medical neglect.” It said Rachel suffered an extended loss of oxygen that left her with very minimal brain activity. The words were direct, but the pain behind them was clear.

On March 18, her husband shared the final update. Rachel had passed away the night before while in hospice. The journey she once shared with excitement ended in quiet heartbreak.

Now, her story is being remembered not just for how it ended, but for how she lived—open, hopeful, and deeply connected to the people who followed her every step.
