Enfield, Connecticut — A quiet afternoon on Interstate 91 turned tragic Monday when 38‑year‑old Sabria Hardy of Bloomfield died after a multi‑vehicle crash near Exit 46. The collision, which happened shortly before 3 p.m. on January 26, has shaken her family, friends, and neighbors.
Hardy was a passenger in a car that had pulled over on the snow‑covered southbound lanes of I‑91. Connecticut had been hit by more than a foot of snow earlier that day, creating treacherous road conditions. Officers say two vehicles – including Hardy’s 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander and a 2021 Acura ILX – were stopped in the highway due to an earlier collision when the deadly impact happened.

A 2025 Jeep Compass, traveling in the center lane, plowed into the back of the stopped Acura. Hardy was critically injured in that rear‑end strike and rushed to Hartford Hospital. Despite efforts by medical staff, she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the Acura, a 35‑year‑old man from Enfield, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the hospital. The Jeep’s driver, a 49‑year‑old man from North Carolina, complained of pain at the scene but chose not to be taken to a medical facility, according to state police.
The crash shut down I‑91 southbound near Exit 46 for several hours. Traffic was diverted and the ramp at Exit 47 was closed as troopers processed the scene and cleared wreckage. Conditions were made worse by snow still on the ground from the recent storm.
Hardy was remembered by loved ones as a devoted mother and kind soul. Community members have taken to social media and local gathering places to share memories of her warmth and her work, including helping others in her role as a mental health practitioner. Tributes spoke of her bright spirit and the deep hole her absence has left in the lives of those who knew her.
Connecticut State Police continue to investigate the crash. Officials are urging anyone who saw the collision or who may have dashboard camera footage from the area at the time to reach out to Trooper First Class John Wilson at Troop H.
Ending with heart: Sabria Hardy’s passing leaves her community mourning a life taken too soon, and a reminder of how quickly a routine drive can turn into tragedy when winter weather and traffic hazards collide.
